Group Memberships

By default, new users will be placed into a group with the same name as the user being created. For example, when a new user account is created for “testuser”, a default “testuser” group is also created. Users may be added to one or more groups. Effective permissions for users associated with multiple groups will default to the least restrictive group permissions.

Group membership associations may affect access to files and directories, job scheduling/priorities and access to cluster resources.

Users may request one or more group memberships when they Request an Account on the cluster; thereafter, changes may be requested by contacting the BSBC Systems Administrator at bsbc_admin@uncg.edu. The BSBC Steering Committee reserves the right to deny or assign group membership based on the user’s role on the cluster.
