“Using Cytochrome P450 Monooxygenases in the Late-Stage Functionalization and Diversification of Anticancer Natural Products”

Wednesday, September 30th in Sullivan Science Bldg Rm. 201, starting at 1:00 PM

Abstract:

Natural products continue to be a rich source of anticancer leads, but the structural complexity of these compounds frequently impedes late-stage functionalization and diversification. Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases are potent enzymes that are capable of direct, highly regioselective C-H functionalizations under mild conditions without destroying key pharmacophores. This presentation highlights three studies that utilize P450 monooxygenases to overcome the challenge of diversifying natural product structures. These studies demonstrate how incorporating P450 biocatalysis with synthetic chemistry expands the accessible chemical space for discovering anticancer drugs.
