For routine sample analysis, one-dimensional 1H and 13C spectra are collected for small molecule samples. For novel or unknown compounds, a set of two-dimensional (2D) experiments are generally required. These 2D NMR experiments (with acronyms) include the HSQC, HMBC, NOESY, ROESY, TOCSY, and COSY experiments. For large molecule structure studies, such as proteins, three-dimensional experiments are needed on a high field magnet available at the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering NMR facility.
