Talk Title: Applications of a Data-Intensive Approach for Understanding and Developing Reactivity and Selectivity

Abstract:

Alec Christian received his B.S. degree in chemistry from Wake Forest University, where he carried out undergraduate research in the laboratory of Prof. Paul Jones. During his time at Wake Forest, he participated in two summer internships at Pfizer in Groton, CT where he worked on chiral allylation reagents as well as probed the mechanism of nickel-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross couplings. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of California – Berkeley under the mentorship of Prof. F. Dean Toste, where he applied quantitative linear regression models to understand phopshine ligand effects and bioconjugation reactions.  Since 2019, he has been a discovery chemist at Merck in Boston, MA.
