Talk Title: Shadow Genes: A Hidden layer of Code Revealed by Frameshifting
Abstract:
Ribosomal frameshifting is a fascinating occurrence embedded within a set of familiar biological processes, resulting in a new angle on gene expression. The genetic code has another layer of information that can be revealed through a simple perspective shift in the reading frame of mRNA. This phenomenon isn’t a rare incidental event, but instead provides a valuable regulatory mechanism for the expression of gene products.
