Title: Synthetic Methodologies for the Formation of P-Stereogenic Molecules

Abstract:

P-stereogenic molecules are molecules which contain a chiral phosphorus atom. While significantly less common than their carbon chiral center counterparts, P-stereogenic centers play a significant role in several classes of molecules, including as a catalyst in the Nobel Prize winning synthesis of L-DOPA. To this point, methods for enantioselective synthesis of phosphorus centers is limited, especially in substrate scope. This talk will cover some of the most common ways of synthesis and resolution of P-stereogenic centers, from simple enantioselective deprotonations and menthol resolutions to the recent advancements in substrate scope and reactivity.
