Talk Title: “High-Performance Chemical Isotope Labeling LC-MS for Comprehensive and Quantitative Metabolomics”.

Abstract:

“Metabolites are an important class of cellular components that play significant rules in biological functions. Detailed analysis of the metabolome, i.e., all the metabolites present in a biological system, can provide important and holistic insight into a biological process, as well as facilitate the discovery of potentially clinical useful disease biomarkers. However, there are still several technical challenges in metabolomic analysis. Many of these challenges are largely due to the limitation of current analytical tools for detecting, quantifying and identifying a large number of metabolites with a wide range of concentrations and diverse chemical/physical properties. Despite great efforts in the past decade or so in developing new or improved techniques for metabolomic analysis, generating a quantitative and very comprehensive metabolome profile is still difficult. In this presentation, a high-performance chemical isotope labeling liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (CIL LC-MS) platform for quantitative and comprehensive metabolome profiling of biological systems will be described. Some selected applications of this platform for metabolomics studies will be presented.”
