I came to UNCG to do natural products research with Dr. Oberlies, who has a strong reputation of excellence in this field. I enjoyed my time there because of the opportunities I had to work in cross-disciplinary research teams and engage in scientific studies with implications well beyond chemistry. An important part of my training was presenting at scientific conferences in New York, St. Louis, Charlotte, Raleigh, Boone (NC), and Greensboro. Participating in these meetings enabled me to refine my presentation skills while interacting with experts in NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, analytical chemistry, biotechnology, and of course, natural products.
While at UNCG, I was trained not only in the use of cutting edge instrumentation in my field of study, but also to write manuscripts and grant proposals, to supervise students, and to manage a research lab. This experience made my transition to my current position as an Assistant Professor smooth and easy. I am excited to be applying my training to conduct natural products research, and to teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
