If you like mathematics, physics, and chemistry then research in experimental physical chemistry might be for you.  Dr. Duffy is always on the lookout for intrepid undergraduate and graduate students that are willing to write an equation, pick up a screw driver (even if you’ve never done it before), write a program, run a lathe, design a 3D part, theoretically model a physical process, fire a laser, find vacuum leaks, run a simulation and/or design, build, and test a new instrument.  Projects on both the experimental and/or theoretical side are possible.

  • Chemistry graduate students at the MS or PhD level are welcome, as are
  • Graduate students from the JSNN‘s Nanoscience program
  • Undergraduate BS Chemistry and Physics majors are also welcome. Undergrads who want to join Dr. Duffy’s research group should try to have a long-term commitment to research.  It is expected that students will assist Dr. Duffy and work in the laboratory at least 8 hours a week.  Students typically start in their junior year but Dr. Duffy has mentored undergraduate research concentration students starting as early as their freshman year.

If you are interested in Dr. Duffy’s research group please contact him by email or knock on his door.
