The Hematian research group will relocate to the Department of Chemistry at Virginia Tech in the summer of 2025. We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate students with interests in redox processes related to bioinorganic chemistry, synthetic inorganic chemistry, biochemical or chemical catalysis, environmental chemistry, or electrochemistry, particularly in energy storage. Inquiries about available positions in the group are welcome.

Postdoctoral Scientists

When positions become available in the group, they will be advertised through multiple channels.

Graduate Students

We typically accept one or two PhD students per year, depending on the group’s needs. If you are interested in joining our research group, please visit the Virginia Tech Chemistry Department’s graduate program website for more information on how to apply.

Undergraduate Students

The Hematian research group is always looking for enthusiastic undergraduate students to join the lab. Preference will be given to students who can make a long term commitment to research and have demonstrated strong performance in chemistry coursework, specifically in inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry, or biochemistry. All students participating in research are also expected to participate in weekly group meetings. If you are interested in joining our group, send us an email describing why you are interested in doing research in our group. Also, include some information about your career plans and academic standing at Virginia Tech. You can find some helpful information on undergraduate research here

High School Students & Community College Students

We have a strong commitment to mentoring and training students from every level of education to become exceptional researchers, with a particular desire to increase diversity and inclusion in the sciences. To this end, we provide research opportunities for students at the very early stages of their academic lives including early introduction to research at the high school and Community College levels. If you are interested in joining our lab, please contact us by email describing your future goals, chemistry background, and why you are interested in joining our research team.
