With the advent of the new PhD program, the department is most in need of unrestricted funds that can be used to upgrade our equipment holdings. The monies pay for research stipends to undergraduate research students and pay for travel of graduate and undergraduate students to present the results of their research at national and international scientific meetings.

Instrumentation in the department must be continually upgraded to keep research and instruction at the cutting-edge. The department, therefore, has need of unrestricted gift funds to support important equipment purchases.
