Title: Biotransformations of Novel Stilbenes

Abstract:

Biotransformations are enzymatic reactions that can detoxify, stabilize, and activate compounds via late stage modifications. In fungi, these catalytically promiscuous reactions proceed in the secretome and produce a colorful array of compounds with interesting activities. The research that is discussed in this presentation aimed to harness these reactions to biotransform a suite of new stilbenes and assess the activities of these new compounds in antimicrobial, fungitoxicity, and cytotoxicity assays. The protein secretome of Botrytis cinerea was used to perform the biotransformation of a mix of pterostilbene and resveratrol, and yielded 20 new stilbenoids. Of the 20 new biosynthesized compounds, 5 showed promising activities.
