Talk title: Crystallising the Uncrystallisable, High Throughput Access to Small Molecule Crystals for Diffraction Analysis

Abstract:

Small molecule single crystal X-ray crystallography is one of the most powerful analytical tools for the determination of both molecular structure, including absolute stereochemistry, and solid-state packing. However, accessing suitable single crystals is often experimentally challenging, due to a requirement to screen a very wide range of crystallisation conditions but with limited sample availability. In this talk we will present our work on Encapsulated Nanodroplet Crystallisation (ENaCt) as a method to allow high throughput screening of crystallisation conditions to generate samples for single crystal X-ray analysis with only a few milligrams of analyte. ENaCt can be applied to synthetic research molecules, pharmaceuticals and natural products, with high success rates in the generation of crystals and thus allowing molecular and solid-state elucidation.
