Title: “Synthesis of Vinyl Allyl Ethers and the Study of the Regioselectivity of the Claisen Rearrangement Reaction”

Abstract:

The Claisen rearrangement reaction is a very well known and used reaction. This reaction is a [3,3] sigma tropic reaction in which an allyl phenyl ether is converted into an ortho-allyl phenol, which is the focus of this project. The main goal of this work is to understand the regioselectivity of the Claisen rearrangement and how it is influenced by either an internal base or a bulky R group. The proposal hypothesizes that given an allyl phenyl ether, the product will be an ortho-allyl phenol with the alkene group para to the R group if the R group is bulky. This reaction is known for being useful and efficient in chemical synthesis. This reaction can not only be performed under simple and mild conditions, but this reaction can also be selective (chemo-, regio-, and diastereo-). Knowing this has led to many chemists to study the potential of this reaction and search for a deeper understanding of the selectivity.
