“Closed ESI Ion Source and Enhancement of Ionization in Nanospay Mass Spectrometry”

Abstract:

Almost all commercial ESI ion sources are open to atmosphere.  Environmental ions are often detected with significant intensity and sometimes cause suppression of analyte ions.  By using a closed nanospray ion source, signals from environmental ions could be eliminated.  With controlled nanospray environment, various kinds of gas and vapor could be introduced to enhance ionization and improve limits of detection and quantification.  Proper design of experiments also provides some important evidences contradictory to our current understanding of ESI mechanism.
