“Chew On This: A Collection of Nutrition Research Clinical Trials”

The gold standard of clinical research is the double-blind randomized controlled trial. However, when it comes to nutrition research, these designs are notoriously difficult to implement. In this seminar we will discuss three nutrition clinical trials that use three different study designs, and the advantages and disadvantages of each design. Included in our discussion will be a randomized controlled trial of the anti-inflammatory diet for pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome, a quazi-experimental designed study of the ketogenic diet for people with Parkinson’s disease, and evaluation of a community nutrition project.

Dr. Zwickey will be present as part of our NIH T32 symposium, Medicinal Natural Products Chemistry Research:  From Lab to Clinic, a scientific symposium featuring leaders in the field of basic and clinical natural products research.  Topics will include natural product biosynthesis, chemical ecology, and cancer drug discovery.  This is a free event pitched to a general scientific audience, including students, faculty and community members.
