“Innovation Commercialization at UNCG; What it is and Why it is important to your research”

Abstract:

Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, said, “Research is creating new knowledge.” However, creating knowledge is just the first step. For research to become truly transformative, we need to use research-generated knowledge to create new products and services in the marketplace. The Office of Innovation Commercialization’s (OIC) mission is to help transform UNCG research into products and services that change people’s lives and improve the world we live for all.    The OIC does this by protecting intellectual property, negotiating and executing agreements that help facilitate research partnerships, and help provide connections to external commercialization partners.    This seminar will address intellectual property issues including, forms of intellectual property, and understanding intellectual property in sponsored research agreements, material transfer, and confidentiality agreements, and entrepreneurial opportunities to commercialize intellectual property.

L. Staton Noel III, Director of the OIC, will also share his experiences and insights from his 30 year career in large pharma, start-ups, public-private, federal, and university research organizations.
