Title: “Bioactive Compound Discovery in Fungal-Fungal Co-Culture”

Abstract:

Fungi are a good resource to discover novel compounds due to their biological
diversity. In nature, fungi often grow in hostile environments and compete for
nutrients with various microorganisms. So, a strategy of mimicking the competing
condition via fungal co-culture has been developed to activate silent biosynthetic
genes to increase compound diversity and produce novel secondary metabolites.
This presentation will focus fungal-fungal co-culture to produce novel compounds,
including pairing and selection of fungi for co-culture, the process of cultivation and
isolation, structural elucidation of novel compounds, genome sequencing and analysis,
bioactivity test and some background and history of this topic.
